Playing some piano, keyboards, and a bit of guitar... wishing I wasn't alone on New Year's Eve. *sigh*

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

Really not looking forward to spending all of New Year's Eve & Day totally alone in this quiet, sad house. Ugh. Loneliness can be crushing.

Weird. The status update I sent at 2pm only just now got posted. Hrm. It took 8 hours to post an update?
At court hoping to reduce my ticket.
The shoot Sunday was amazing. Postings photos on Flickr. They involve nudity, so you have to have an account there & set your filters.

severe depression

Not to cause a stir, but am I feeling a minor earthquake? fFeels like the ground is rocking a bit. Or is it a truck? Or low blood sugar?
At work, but it's so dead quiet that we're planning to close early.
Absolutely dreading another miserable, lonely New Year's Eve.

Christmas alone in a quiet house really, really sucks. I've got nobody and nothing. And New Year next week = more of the same.
As of 2:55 a.m. it is snowing nice and hard outside! Woo! Maybe we can still have a white Christmas! Now I just need Vera Ellen. *sigh*

Why, yes, I *DO* drink when struggling with depression! Thomas Kemper root beer rocks.

Well, I TRIED to go in to work. Halfway there, I got my car stuck in deep snow at the roadside. I'm unstuck now and back home.

Yesterday was intense and harrowing and amazing! http://ping.fm/V1Azi

An Unforgettable Day

Saturday, December 20, 2008 was one helluva night to remember. I had my second shoot with the amazing-in-every-way Bridgette Colette. Like last time, I drove down to Marysville (57 miles) to pick her up, drove back to Bellingham to shoot in the studio, then I drove her back home, then finally came back to Bellingham myself. That's 228 miles of driving, except this time the roads were covered in snow and ice. And by the end of the shoot... well, we'll get to that. The shoot was just incredible. It began with shooting some Christmas-themed photos, including what will be my Christmas card for this year. Then it moved through a bunch of different "scenes" which were dramatically different from each other, including a sexy fishnets shoot, an innocent "springtime" shot, an early Valentines Day shoot, a "chic smoking" shoot, an improvised idea with a felt hat, a sexy shoot in the style of FHM and Maxim with her playing with the stereotypes of male bachelor behavior, and then a couple of different "tough girl" shoots -- one somewhat hair-metal in style, the other a bit Tank-Girl-like in nature. We got a huge variety of shots, and made this surely the most diverse AND the most ambitious shoot I've ever done. Fresh chocolate chip cookies capped it off perfectly, and around 8:30 we set out for the trip to drive her back to Marysville. The drive from Bellingham to Marysville was a bit tense at spots, with lanes sometimes being invisible due to the snow, plus some unpredictable slippery moments. But mostly it was no problem for somebody who is good at driving in snow and ice like me. In the snow, the one-hour drive became nearly two hours long. We talked the entire way, and when I dropped her off I wished we'd had even more time to talk. What a great, wonderful girl she is! One I dropped her off, I headed back north to Bellingham. That drive was a whole different affair. A new snowstorm was hitting hard, and now the lanes were completely covered, and much more slippery. Worse, there was a lot of blowing snow. For several miles north of Burlington, I was stuck in a genuine whiteout. All I could see was thick, swirling whiteness at the hood of my car. I could not see the ground, nor even the headlight beams. The only thing guiding me for a while was two little red dots -- the taillights of the car in front of me. I just hoped that they knew what they were doing and steered to keep those red dots in front of me. It was all I could do. It was the most intense, stressful, exhausting drive I've ever done. But to shoot with Bridgette, it was absolutely, unquestionably worth it! I can't wait to start posting finished photos Sunday afternoon. This was an incredible day, and an incredible shoot. I'll never forgot today.

My Former Model Is Famous! (or infamous!)

Back in February and March of 2007 I did a series of four different shoots with a gorgeous, sexy, smart, funny and unforgettable model. At the time she made it very clear that she was serious about becoming a professional model. I tried to give her some good shots to show around to get started. Little did I know where she was going to wind up!

Just after our last shoot -- the one with the very popular boxing photo of her -- she went to California during spring break. I didn't hear from her for a while, and then she sent a message to all her friends saying she had made the "controversial" decision to stay in California for the time being.

We stayed in touch, but I had no idea what she was doing and I didn't intrude and ask. But she would sometimes allude to the "controversy" and that a lot of people in Washington State apparently did not support her. Then one day she posted new professional photos on one of her social networking profiles. I looked up the photographer, and found that my sweet model and friend was now a rapidly-rising porn star now working under the screen name "Tori Black." Yoinks!

Where others didn't support her, I immediately did. What does it matter what she does? And what is wrong with sexuality? No, don't post your reply below; I will delete it. There is no argument: there is nothing whatsoever wrong with sexuality, nor with the career path she has chosen.

For more than a year she did fairly typical adult movies with typically silly premises -- the tennis player who gets "tutored", the nanny who gets a "bonus", the naughty school girl who gets "punished", you get the idea. The first movies were obviously super low-budget, but some of the latest ones appeared to be a bit more elaborate.

But now she has truly arrived. She is the Penthouse Pet of the Month for December, and is on the cover. Making the cover and centerfold of either of the "big two" (Playboy or Penthouse) means you've arrived in the industry. It's a big achievement.

I'm proud of you, Tori. You did good. I'm lucky to have done four shoots with you when you were just starting out, and I'm glad to have helped you at the very beginning of it all. For all the fans of Tori who haven't seen the shots before, here are some photos from the four shoots i did with her before she got into the industry, when she was just starting out:

Take A Snow Ride (and take it easy)

I just took a brief drive in the snow, testing to see if it is as bad as i feared, or not as bad, or worse. I ran to Mojo music to get a set of strings for the 12-string guitar my dad recently repaired (the neck had been snapped for years), and a spare 010 high E for the special tuning I use on another guitar. Roads are just.... fucking.... NASTY. It's as bad as I feared, maybe even a notch worse. I'm a pretty good snow driver, at least for western Washington state, and had no problems coping with all the fishtailing and sliding. I wasn't worried so much about my own driving, but more about other people. And the conditions themselves are just horrible, even for a good snow driver. I tried to go to Barnes & Noble to look for something for somebody. I got there fine, but just as I got to the door to walk in a woman poked her head out. "I'm sorry," she said, "We're closing right now so our employees can get home before dark." As much as I wanted to look around in the store, I think she made a good choice for them. It was bad in daylight, and will be really unsafe at night. I hope it's better tomorrow. I have taken two 'snow days' now, and they're unpaid. I can't afford more of that.

I was supposed to be doing an awesome shoot for my Xmas cards tomorrow or Thurs, but the model isn't replying now. Worried & very upset...
Is it considered bad/rude to send a text message at 1:20am? I think of it like email--send any time. Or am I wrong? How does that work?

It's snowing HARD and the roads are a terrible mess. I love it! If it keeps up overnight, it will be a beautiful nightmare in the morning!
Damn this is freaking boring. I wish I had somewhere to go and something to do and somebody to do it with. This sucks HARD. :-(
Mug of hot cocoa + tiny marshmallows = happy. All I need now is for the snow to start. Come on, snow!
I see it's snowing down in Skagit County now. Waiting anxiously in Bellingham -- come on, snow!!

Urgent holiday wreath help needed!

I urgently need to either buy or borrow a large wreath for a photo shoot next week (probably on the 17th, but the date is not yet confirmed). A normal-sized door wreath will not do. It has to be around 16-24 inches across; it't not big enough unless you can stick your head comfortably through the middle of it and have a bit of room to spare. 16-24 inches is a good size. I need to either find the CHEAPEST place to buy a wreath that size here in Bellingham or Mt. Vernon/Burlington, or better yet borrow one for the shoot from somebody who has one. Decorated simply would be nice -- berries, pine cones, shiny balls, bells or bows -- but plain is fine, too. (I have my own ornaments I can use.) if you have ANY tips or possible help in my urgent quest for a wreath of that specific size, please let me know ASAP!

What a mess I'm in

Everybody already knows I struggle with depression, so I won't go into that. But start with that already in place, and now add this: When I left work to drive home today, I got the flashing light bars behind me. The officer just told me I need to mount my license plate on the bumper; it's been in my back window for a year now since somebody rear-ended me badly and I haven't got it repaired. I can do that, no problem. Then he asked for my license, ownership papers for the car, and proof of insurance. License, check. Papers, check. Insurance... well, when I lost my previous job a year ago I struggled for months and almost wound up homeless. My insurance lapsed during that time, and I've never renewed it. I was driving without insurance. I got a ticket for $550 which has to be payed in 14 days. I drove the remaining 27 miles home. I pulled into the garage then stepped out and grabbed the mail. There was an electric shutoff notice from Puget Sound Energy. My electricity is to be shut off on Friday if I don't pay. Oh yeah, and my gas bill is extremely overdue as well. I logged into my online banking and found barely $700. *sigh* I'm trying to make it work. I worked out a payment plan with the power company, and made the first payment online. So my power won't be shut off Friday. Thursday is a payday, though it will be a smaller-than-usual one. I'll mail a check for the $550 ticket on Friday. Meanwhile, I need to reactivate my insurance, and I have no idea how much that will cost. I wonder if they'll raise my rate because I was driving without insurance for a year? Christ, I am incredibly stressed out, miserable, and barely scraping through life. As bad as the money problems are at the moment, I still have to say the loneliness is far worse. I can handle stress, and I can work through temporary money problems. But I can't handle the silence and emptiness. Off to figure out how to attach my license plate to the bumper...

Double Agent

"Bright Angel" and "Dark Angel" Bridgette Cōlette. On the edge of sleep, I heard voices behind the door The known and the nameless, familiar and faceless My angels and my demons at war Which one will lose depends on what I choose Or maybe which voice I ignore... Wilderness of mirrors Streets of cold desire My precious sense of honour Just a shield of rusty wire I hold against the chaos And the cross of holy fire Wilderness of mirrors So easy to deceive My precious sense of rightness Is sometimes so naive So that which I imagine Is that which I believe On the edge of sleep, I awoke to a sun so bright Rested and fearless, cheered by your nearness I knew which direction was right The case had been tried by the jury inside The choice between darkness and light. I'm getting severe weather alerts about possible flooding in Western WA on Thurs. & Fri. nights. Heads up, locals. Be prepared, just in case.

Eight long, bleak years of receding rights, unjust war, declining prosperity, and dimming hopes... Hope, faith and pride are coming back! I am OVERJOYED!
It's official, OBAMA WINS! McCain is conceding right now.
NBC NEWS CALLS IT FOR OBAMA!!! NBC NEWS CALLS IT FOR OBAMA!!! NBC NEWS CALLS IT FOR OBAMA!!!
Enjoying a small veggie tray (carrots, cherry tomatoes & cucumber w/ranch) and watching the map turn blue. What a night!
With 200 electoral votes already for Obama, add Cali, Hawaii and Wash and Obama gets to about 270 and wins--EVEN WITHOUT FLORIDA!
A few shots from my latest photoshoot. Have a look! http://ping.fm/d7Djc
Just posted several new photos. Gonna make a baked potato and watch Olbermann now.

Bridgette C?lette rocks the studio in a big, big way!

I had an amazing shoot Sunday with a fantastic new model, Bridgette Cōlette. Bridgette is a little bundle of wow. She is just as sweet as she is beautiful. But she's also versatile, expressive, and has the rare gift of being able to hit one great pose after another in rapid succession. This girl could really go somewhere, and I hope she does! Bridgette Cōlette is a little bundle of wow -- gorgeous, a sweetheart, and a talented, versatile model. We shot a diverse array of concepts that really show her range as a model. There is much more to come from this shoot, so keep an eye on my photos. Did I not say that Bridgette is versatile? The girl is amazing. I loved working with her, and hope to work with her again -- lots. I have to admit, I'm very pleased with my own work during this shoot as well. I did a lot of my best work ever during this shoot, and am excited to see where I'll go from here, and what I'll do in the future. One of my 3-4 favorite photographers ever is Kate O'Brien. I've admired her imaginative, thoughtfully-planned work for years. I have always felt that she is on a similar path to what I've been trying to achieve, but that she is far ahead of me. But this shoot with Bridgette was the first time I felt like I've started to achieve something like I've wanted to do -- the type of imagination, depth, planning, and attention to detail that marks Kate's brilliant work. I think I'm finally starting to get somewhere, and it's exciting. You'll see more of that in the rest of this shoot. I have only begun to post the photos.
Just got home from work. Anxious to work on more photos of Bridgette! But gotta eat something before I fall over. :-p PS: I hate getting home from work in pitch black night!

I've been just exhausted all day. Dozed off on the couch for a couple hours earlier, which only makes me more groggy. Big photo shoot with Bridgette tomorrow though.
3 hrs spent trying to get my computer to boot! F*$k! Reinstalling now. Total bs!
Been trying for an hour to get my computer to boot up! Wtf!
Lamest Halloween ever, and "King of the Hill" is canceled, and Studs Terkel died. What a totally crappy day!
Woot! I'm able to update my status in almost all my social networks at the same time though ping.fm -- this rocks. Plus I can post from my cell phone. Very nice!
Testing mobile status updating. Does this work?
